Welcome to the July edition of Cabrillo Vistas – A Newsletter of Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation! It’s time to catch up on what we’ve been doing so far this summer: we celebrated NeighborWorks week; we received children's activity/literacy kits assembled for us by Bank of America and the United Way of Ventura County; we had visits with the Wells Fargo Foundation and NeighborWorks America; and we celebrated our Star Employee of the Quarter. Thank you for reading our newsletter and for your support. Please share with your friends and family.
CEDC Celebrates NeighborWorks Week
Cabrillo EDC celebrated NeighborWorks Week by hosting a resource fair at the Wagon Wheel Apartments in Oxnard on June1st. NeighborWorks America is a national organization created by the U.S. Congress to support local community development organizations throughout the U.S.by providing training, funding and other resources each year, the first week of June is celebrated as NeighborWorks Week and provides an opportunity to highlight what network members like Cabrillo EDC accomplish in their communities. This year’s theme, “Empowering Communities for Success” raised awareness about our mission, or work with NeighborWorks America, and with partner organizations serving Ventura County. Thank you to all our community partners and Cabrillo EDC staff who participated in our Resource Fair.

| Summer Literacy Kits
Summer is a great time for children to read and be creative while having fun. We thank United Way of Ventura County and the amazing team of volunteers from Bank of America for providing literacy kits for our younger residents. The volunteers gathered at Bank of America offices in Simi Valley and Westlake Village.. The literacy kits are designed to encourage reading at an early age by making the experience fun and interactive. Each kit includes a coloring story book, crayons, activity sheets, along with a handwritten note of encouragement from the volunteers that assembled them.

NeighborWorks America Visits CEDC
This month our Management Team had the pleasure of hosting Lisa Hasegawa, Regional Vice President -Western Region and Donna Wright, Senior Relationship Manger - Western Region of NeighborWorks America for a day. We took them to see the great progress being made on the construction of Dolores Huerta Gardens - 58 units being built in Oxnard for farmworkers and veterans. It was a great chance for all of us to discuss our accomplishments this year as well as Cabrillo EDC's plans for the future.
