At the heart of this community stands a remarkable individual, Cristina, the resident manager who embodies compassion, dedication, and unwavering support for the residents of Villa Cesar Chavez. Today, we want to spotlight Cristina, her inspiring journey, and her profound impact on the lives of those she serves.
From Farm Worker Roots to Empowering Educator:
Cristina’s story is one of resilience and determination. Growing up, her parents worked as farm workers, instilling in her the values of hard work, perseverance, and education. As a first-generation college graduate, Cristina recognized the transformative power of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. She pursued her passion for Early Childhood Education and Development Psychology, earning a BA from California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI). Cristina’s collective experiences make her uniquely qualified as a resident manager. She is, however, so much more than that. She also inspires all who know her, especially her residents.
Dedicated Support for Residents:
As the Resident Manager of Villa Cesar Chavez, Cristina goes above and beyond to support and empower her community. She understands the unique challenges farm workers and their families face, and she is dedicated to providing them with the resources and support they need to thrive.
Education and Personal Development:
Recognizing the importance of education, Cristina actively assists residents in signing up for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. By helping them improve their language skills, she enables them to communicate effectively and gain confidence in their daily lives. Furthermore, Cristina plays a vital role in helping residents’ children with their homework, essays for college applications, and filling out financial aid forms. She has even found a way to use her early childhood development degree by creating activities for the youngest residents. Her guidance and support open doors of opportunity for these young individuals, helping them realize their dreams of higher education. Cristina shared that she draws inspiration from the residents by watching videos of Cabrillo EDC’s founding Executive Director, Rodney Fernandez.
Accessing Resources:
Cristina advocates for her residents, working tirelessly to connect them with valuable resources. She ensures they can access many resources such as financial planning, tax preparation, wellness fairs, Food Share pantries and food distributions, and other activities. By providing information for various community resources, she strengthens the support network available to the residents, enabling them to access essential services and improve their quality of life.
Creating a Nurturing Environment:
Cristina takes immense pride in Villa Cesar Chavez, creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for all residents. She plans monthly events to bring the community together. From a Day of the Child celebration to Cesar Chavez Day to a Mother’s Day potluck, she always plans events with and for the residents. She fosters a sense of community where neighbors support and uplift each other. Her dedication to maintaining the property ensures residents have a safe and comfortable place to call home.

Through her work, Cristina serves as an unwavering advocate for the residents of Villa Cesar Chavez. She is a voice for their needs, concerns, and aspirations, ensuring their voices are heard, and their rights are protected.
