(VENTURA COUNTY, Calif.,) – January 11, 2024 – Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (Cabrillo EDC) recently received a check from First Citizens Bank for $50,000 to support Resident and Community Service (RCS) Programs. This donation is specifically designated to focus on enhancing the Food for Thought and Body program as well as Adult Educational Programming and Youth Activities.
The Food for Thought and Body program was initiated in 2022 and consisted of visits to five Cabrillo EDC properties from the Ventura County Mobile Library and Kids Farmers Markets (KFM) Program by the regional food bank. In 2023, about 400 children and 125 adults were served through the Mobile Library visits, and about 75 children participated in the KFM program. Cabrillo EDC aims to serve at least six properties in 2024. Other planned RCS Program activities include afterschool programs, summer programs, and arts, STEM and literacy programs for youth.
“This collaboration signifies more than just financial support; it represents a commitment to building stronger, healthier communities,” said Margarita H. de Escontrias, CEO of Cabrillo EDC. “Cabrillo EDC looks forward to seeing the positive outcomes and lasting impact generated by this partnership with First Citizens Bank.”
Cabrillo EDC has long been a pillar in community development, dedicated to providing affordable housing and creating thriving neighborhoods while empowering residents through various initiatives. The Resident and Community Service Programs play a pivotal role in fostering educational opportunities and focusing on resident engagement and leadership.
