Community Building and Neighborhood Revitalization

At CEDC, we are committed to a community building philosophy that helps ensure the families we work with live in an environment that encourages them to prosper. We do this by providing community building opportunities in our Property Management, Real Estate Development and HOC Divisions. Some examples of our community building activities include leadership development, resident organizing and civic engagement.

Through these opportunities, CEDC helps residents become active participants in their communities. In 2003 one of our great community building activities was the NeighborWorks® Week project.

In 2003, more than 75 volunteers—along with Help of Ojai, Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo Bank--helped rehabilitate the home of Gene Marie McDaniels, an Ojai woman living with disabilities.

In 2004, dozens of individuals donated their time and resources to rehab the two-bedroom home of a Santa Paula family. Our Summer 2004 newsletter details all the great work on this house.

In partnership with local municipalities and community leaders, Cabrillo's Community Building and Neighborhood Revitalization Division also provides community education and advocacy to local communities around Smart Growth design and construction.

The Community Building and Neighborhood Revitalization Division recently helped organize local residents in Santa Paula in support of the community planning process known as the Charrette - a planning process by which the Santa Paula community helped to shape the vision for the forthcoming Fagan Canyon development.
